What happens to our skin as we grow older? What can we do to make our skin grow older in a beautiful way?

Women’s menopause sets in gradually between 45-55 years of age. The production of oestrogen decreases dramatically and leads to changes in the skin. The production of sebum also decreases, which leads to a drier and thinner skin. The subcutaneous skin becomes less elastic, making it beautifully wrinkled. As the level of oestrogen lowers, the level of collagen decreases, too. Collagen acts as the skin’s cement, supporting other tissues and holding the skin together. When the collagen starts to break down, the skin looses some of its firmness and resiliency. These changes give our face their own personal character. This is the most obvious for those who have spent a lot of time in the sun. Life experience At about the age of 40 you have the face you deserve! This means that each and everyone’s experience of life has put its traces in the face. If you have laughed a lot, you have lovely crow’s feet around your eyes. If you have worried a lot, you may have two deep furrows on your forehead. What have your life been like? Take a look in the mirror! With so many changes going on in mature skin, the skincare routines should always be carefully adapted. Below is some general advice for keeping your skin healthy: 1. Mature skin is often very dry. Always use a moisturising cream both day and night. 2. Drink a lot of water every day! 3. A soap-free washing cream can help you reduce moisture loss from your face. 4. It’s never too late to start protecting your skin against sun damage! 5. Many older people feel the cold and often turn up the temperature in their homes. To keep your skin from getting dry, buy a humidifier, or put bowls of water close to the radiators. 6. A short walk every day is good for your circulation and encourages the transport of oxygen to all cells of the body. Oriflame recommends For mature skin, Oriflame especially recommends Royal Velvet, a cleansing and skincare range which contains high-performance UV filters that dramatically improve the skin’s defences against the elements. Complement with the products in Time Reversing, which was especially developed to fight hormonal ageing.
